Terms of use
The rules for using this website.
Effective October 8, 2026. Last updated October 10, 2026. Plain language, because this page governs a website, not a service.
1. Agreement
These terms apply when you use the Shield Recovery website, the contact card at shieldrecoveryinc.com/card, or the Spot the Unit booth game (together, the "Site"). They are an agreement between you and Shield Recovery Inc. ("Shield," "we" or "us"). If you do not agree, please do not use the Site. Please also read our privacy policy, which explains how we handle information.
2. What this is not
These terms do not govern any recovery, storage, transport or key service. Those are performed under the agreement between Shield and the client that placed the work. Nothing on the Site forms part of that agreement, changes it, or creates one. Sending a form or placing a call does not make Shield your service provider, and it does not create a confidential, attorney-client or other special relationship.
The Site is for adults and for businesses. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before using it.
3. Information on the Site
We publish information about Shield in good faith and try to keep it accurate and current. It is general information. It is not legal, financial or professional advice, and it is not a promise about any particular file, vehicle or belongings. Where the Site summarises a law, for example California's rules on personal property in a recovered vehicle, it is a plain-language orientation. It is not a substitute for the statute itself or for advice from a lawyer, and the law may change.
Coverage described on the Site is where Shield ordinarily works. It is not an offer or a commitment to accept any particular assignment. Whether we can work at a specific address is confirmed by operations.
Information about whether a particular vehicle or item is in our possession, what you owe, or how to collect belongings is given by phone, not on the Site. Call 707-554-8300.
The Site is not for emergencies. If anyone is in danger, call 911.
4. Using the Site
You may use the Site for lawful purposes and in line with these terms. You agree not to:
- submit false information, or contact details that are not yours, or impersonate any person or organisation;
- send forms automatically, flood them, or otherwise interfere with the Site or the systems behind it;
- try to gain access to anything you are not meant to reach, probe or test our systems for weaknesses without our written permission, or introduce malware;
- copy the Site at scale (scraping), or reproduce our content other than as these terms allow;
- use the Site to harass anyone, or to find out where a person or vehicle is for any unlawful purpose.
If you find a security problem, please tell us through our security contact. We will not take action against good-faith research that follows that page and avoids harm to others.
5. Messages you send us
What you send through a form is handled as described in the privacy policy. Please do not send sensitive information (see that policy). We may read, keep and reply to what you send. We are not obliged to reply to every message. We will not send you marketing messages unless you ask.
6. Our content and marks
The Shield Recovery name, logo, text, design, and the Spot the Unit game are owned by Shield Recovery Inc. or used with permission, and are protected by law. You may view the Site and print or share a page for your own non-commercial or business-evaluation purposes, provided you keep it intact and credit Shield. Any other use needs our written permission.
Names of platforms, associations and other organisations on the Site belong to their owners and are used only to describe what Shield works with. We do not claim any endorsement by them. County boundary data on the coverage page is from the U.S. Census Bureau and is in the public domain. Our fonts and some software components are used under open licences listed in the third-party notices.
7. Feedback
If you give us suggestions, you agree we may use them without payment or credit, and without any confidentiality obligation to you.
8. Other websites
The Site links to pages we do not run, such as the California licence register and Shield's staff sign-in. We are not responsible for them. A link is not an endorsement.
9. Availability and changes
We may change, suspend or remove any part of the Site at any time, and we may block access that breaks these terms. The Site may be unavailable from time to time.
10. No warranty
The Site is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including that the Site is accurate, uninterrupted or free of errors or harmful components. Some places do not allow some of these disclaimers, so some may not apply to you.
11. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Shield and its owners, officers and employees are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive losses, or for loss of profit or data, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Site is limited to one hundred dollars ($100). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for fraud, for wilful misconduct, or for gross negligence, or any rights you have under California consumer-protection law. Nothing here limits any responsibility Shield has under California's Collateral Recovery Act or any agreement for recovery work.
12. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If we have a dispute about the Site, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. If we cannot, the state and federal courts located in Solano County, California have jurisdiction, and you and we consent to them. Nothing here removes any right you have to bring a claim in a court that the law gives you.
13. California users
The Site is provided by Shield Recovery Inc., Vallejo, CA 94590; telephone 707-554-8300; email info@shieldrecoveryinc.com. There is no charge to use the Site. Under California Civil Code section 1789.3, California users may report complaints to the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the Department of Consumer Affairs, 1625 North Market Boulevard, Suite N 112, Sacramento, California 95834, or by telephone at (800) 952-5210 or (916) 445-1254. Complaints about a licensed repossession agency can also be made to the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services at bsis.ca.gov.
14. General
If a part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Site. You may not transfer your rights under them; we may transfer ours as part of a sale or reorganisation of Shield. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and using the Site after a change means you accept it.
