Privacy policy

What we collect, why, and how to take it back.

Effective October 8, 2026. Last updated October 10, 2026. This policy covers the Shield Recovery website, the contact card at shieldrecoveryinc.com/card and the Spot the Unit booth game.

The short version

  • We collect what you type into our forms, technical visit information, and booth-game activity such as rounds, scores and sign-up choices.
  • We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising.
  • This website sets no cookies and runs no advertising trackers. It uses one privacy-focused measurement tool, Cloudflare Web Analytics, to count visits in aggregate (see below).
  • Messages sent through our forms are read by an automated tool that labels them, so urgent ones are seen first. People, not software, decide what to do.
  • Enquiries are deleted automatically after 24 months. You can ask for yours to be deleted sooner.
  • Please do not put Social Security numbers, account or card numbers, dates of birth, or vehicle locations into a form.

Who we are

Shield Recovery Inc. is a vehicle recovery agency based in Vallejo, California. In this policy, "we," "us" and "Shield" mean Shield Recovery Inc.. You can reach us at 707-554-8300 or info@shieldrecoveryinc.com.

This policy is about this website, the contact card and the booth game. It does not describe how Shield handles information it receives from a lender or forwarder to carry out a recovery assignment. That information is handled under the agreement with the client who placed the work and under California law, including the confidentiality of personal-property inventories in Business and Professions Code § 7507.9. Shield's staff sign in to a separate service, Dolvona, which this policy does not cover.

What we collect

When you visit

Like every website, ours receives technical information when your browser asks for a page: your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, and details such as your browser and device type. Our host, Cloudflare, processes this to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. We do not use it to build a profile of you. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits in aggregate (see "Visit counts" below).

Visit counts

To see how many people use the website, which pages they read, and how fast pages load, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. Cloudflare loads a small script on our pages that reports page-load timing and page-view details, such as which page was viewed, where the visitor came from, and the visitor's country, browser and device type. Cloudflare states that it collects "the minimum amount of information" needed for these timing metrics and that it "does not track individual end users across our customers' Internet properties." The tool does not set cookies or use your device's local storage, and we do not use it to identify you. It does not log the query strings of web addresses. You can stop it by blocking static.cloudflareinsights.com in your browser; the website works the same without it.

When you send an enquiry

If you use a contact, assignment or partner form, we collect what you enter and a few details sent with it:

  • your name and the email address or phone number you give us;
  • your institution or the type of enquiry, if you supply it;
  • your message;
  • the page the form was on, the date and time, and your browser's identifying string (its "user agent").

Please do not include Social Security numbers, dates of birth, account or payment-card numbers, passwords, or the location of a vehicle. If you need to discuss an assignment, call us first and we will tell you the right way to send it.

When you play the booth game

You can play without giving us your name or contact details. The game records a random session and device identifier, round results and timing, and whether a run or sign-up was completed or abandoned. On the shared booth device, these activity records are stored in the browser and sent to Shield when a connection is available. They do not contain your contact details unless you choose to sign up.

Signing up for the daily board stores your name, email or mobile number, score, total round time, prize tier, contest rules accepted and your separate optional marketing choice. These are saved on the booth device and queued for upload to Shield. Staff can view them and export a backup file, including through AirDrop. The public board displays a shortened name and score, not your contact details. On your own device, local game records remain in your browser until removed. The optional phone follow-up form sends its fields and game score to Shield.

When you use the automated question tool

We run an automated question-and-answer service that answers only from information Shield publishes. If it is available to you and you use it, we log your question, the answer, and a scrambled version of your IP address (a "hash") that we use to limit abuse. We do not store your IP address in readable form for this purpose.

When you call, text or email us

We keep the messages and records that go with the conversation, such as your number or address, so we can respond.

How we use it

  • To answer your enquiry, run the booth contest, contact winners and follow up with people who choose marketing contact.
  • To route messages to the right person and put urgent ones first.
  • To keep the website and our systems secure and to stop abuse, such as spam or automated flooding.
  • To meet legal obligations and to protect our rights or the safety of others.

We do not use it for advertising, we do not build profiles, and we do not send marketing email or text messages unless you ask us to.

Automated tools

When you send an enquiry, an artificial-intelligence model reads it to label who it appears to be from, what they want and how urgent it seems. We run this on Cloudflare's Workers AI service. The label is a first glance for our staff; it does not decide anything about you, and we do not use it to decide whether to help you. A person reads the enquiry. If you would rather it not be read this way, call us instead. For how Cloudflare handles data processed by its AI service, see Cloudflare's privacy policy.

The automated question tool is an AI assistant, not a person. It does not give legal advice and it does not decide anything about your vehicle, your belongings or any account.

Who receives it

We use a small number of service providers who handle information only to provide their service to us:

  • Cloudflare, Inc.: website hosting, visit counts (Cloudflare Web Analytics), the database that stores enquiries, the automated tools described above, and email delivery.
  • Google LLC: our email. A notification containing your enquiry is delivered to a Shield mailbox hosted by Google, and email sent to our public address is forwarded to a Google mailbox.

Shield staff can see your enquiry. We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to respond to valid legal process, to protect our rights, property or safety or anyone else's, or if Shield is sold or reorganised, in which case the new owner would handle it under this policy.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct-marketing purposes. We have not done any of these things in the past twelve months.

Cookies and tracking

This website does not set cookies and does not use advertising or cross-site tracking. See our cookies and tracking page for the detail, including what we will do before that ever changes. We do not track you across websites or build profiles of you, and the aggregate visit counts described above do not identify individuals. We treat "Do Not Track" and Global Privacy Control signals as the request they are, and our practices already meet it.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries (the details and message from a form): deleted automatically after 24 months.
  • Booth sign-ups: server copies are deleted automatically after 24 months. Booth activity records are deleted from the server after 90 days. Shared-device copies and exported backups are managed by staff; they are not removed by the server cleanup. Ask us to remove these copies too.
  • Automated-tool logs: deleted automatically after 90 days.
  • Abuse-prevention counters: deleted after 24 hours.
  • Email and phone records: kept for as long as they are useful to the conversation or required by law, and deleted when you ask us to, unless we must keep them.
  • Hosting logs: kept by Cloudflare under its own retention practices.

Security

The website uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Enquiries are stored in an access-controlled database, and access is limited to people authorised to respond to them. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot promise absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as the law requires. To report a security problem, see our security contact.

Your rights and choices

Whatever state you live in, you can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. California residents have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and other California law, including the right to know, to delete, to correct, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (which we do not do), to limit the use of sensitive personal information (which we do not collect on purpose), and to not be treated differently for using these rights. We honour these requests from anyone who asks.

To make a request:

  • Email info@shieldrecoveryinc.com or call 707-554-8300.
  • Say what you want (see it, fix it or delete it) and how to reach you.
  • To protect you, we will confirm you are the person the information is about, usually by replying to the email address or phone number you gave us. We will not ask you for a Social Security number or account number to do this.
  • We will respond within 45 days. If we need more time we will tell you why, and we may take up to a further 45 days.
  • You may use an authorised agent. We will need written confirmation that they act for you.
  • If you disagree with our answer, reply and tell us why and we will look again. You may also contact the California Attorney General or the California Privacy Protection Agency.

Children

Our website and services are for adults and businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. The booth game can be played without giving us any information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, tell us and we will delete it.

If your vehicle was recovered

If Shield recovered your vehicle for a lender, we hold the records of that assignment for the lender and as California law requires; they are not shared on this website. To ask about your belongings, call 707-554-8300. Questions about your loan or your account are for your lender. We can refer your request to them where we must.

Some links lead to sites we do not run, such as the California licence register and our staff sign-in. They have their own practices, which we do not control.

Changes to this policy

We will change this policy when our practices change, and we will update the date at the top. If we ever add cookies, advertising or other tracking tools, we will update this policy and the cookies page first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before they run.
